The topic I have chosen to focus on for my inquiry is something that has been a goal of mine for a very long time. I have always had a passion for the art of Pilates as I believe it not only works the body but also the mind. Since beginning my pilates practice I have noticed significant improvement in both my mental and physical health which has supported me through my highest highs and lowest lows. Due to the impact this practice has had on my life thus far I decided to make it an even bigger aspect and begin my Pilates reformer instructor training. The program that I have chosen to guide me through my training is the very renowned Balanced Body Cooperation. I found a highly knowledgeable and experienced master Balanced Body Instructor who is providing teacher training classes locally in Victoria, BC. Once I found this program I began researching what the criteria to become a teacher entailed and how it would be a beneficial addition to my life. After very intentional research I decided that this was a dream of mine that I should allow myself to complete. It will be a lot of work to balance both this and my academic life but it is something that I believe will serve me much contentment… One of my favourite quotes that I strive to remind myself of is “The best things in life are sometimes the hardest to obtain.”
Though there are many amazing aspects of having a skill such as being an instructor there are many things to also consider, and many things that I still have yet to learn. This is where my inquiry and curiosity lies…

1. What are the core Pilates principles and how will I begin to integrate them into my pedagogy as a future Pilates instructor?
2. What are important precautions for dealing with clients who may have certain medical needs, are pregnant or post-natal, or who require extra support? How do I execute these modifications?
3. How will I manage to provide correction, modification, and support to each client when in a large group class setting?
4. How will I begin to find my preferred teaching style(upbeat, motivating, low-key, soft, encouraging…) and teaching environment(private, group, large studio, lagree…)?
5. Are there any ethical considerations that I should be aware of or educate myself on before beginning?
My inquiry project will follow my progression through my pre-requisite known as Movement Principles, and the foundational practices being Reformer 1, Reformer 2, and Reformer 3 training. I will be recording weekly progress updates of what I have learned and record any questions I may have. Not only do I intend to inquire but I also hope that this project can act as a digital journal of this very exciting dream of mine coming to life.
